Watch The Med Alarm Phone Investigations – 14th April 2023

Case name: 2022_04_14 WM016

Situation: 15 travellers stuck on the Isla de Alboran, rescued and brought to Motril.

Status of WTM Investigation: Concluded

Place of Incident: Western Mediterranean Sea

Summary of the case: On Friday the 14th of April 2023, the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted by a relative to a group of 15 travellers, all men, in distress in the Alboran Sea. The travellers had left on the 12th of April, and were stuck on Isla de Alboran. We were not able to reach the travellers, but immediately alerted the Spanish search and rescue organisation Salvamento Maritimo. Throughout the day, Salvamento Maritimo and the Guardia Civil remained unable to give us any information about an ongoing search and rescue operation, but online we could see that one of their vessels was heading to the island. Later, we received a confirmation from the relative that the group of travellers had been rescued and brought to Motril.
