Watch The Med Alarm Phone Investigations – 11th March 2023

Case name: 2022_03_11WM008

Situation: 16 travellers stuck at the Isla de Alboran, brought to mainland Spain after several days.

Status of WTM Investigation: Concluded

Place of Incident: Western Mediterranean

Summary of the case: On Saturday the 11th of March 2023, the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted by a relative to a group of 16 travellers stuck on the small uninhabited Isla de Alborán since two days. The relative had lost contact to the group after their arrival to the island, and we were also not able to reach them. We immediately informed the Spanish search and rescue organisation Salvamento Maritimo, who told us that the Guardia Civil would be escorting them. We were not able to get more information from the authorities, but the following day they confirmed that the people were still on the island, but claimed that they were safe as they were with the military and had been provided with food and water. Later, we learned that the travellers had been brought to Motril.
