Case name: 2022_04_02 WM012

Situation: 9 travellers stuck on the Isla de Alboran, brought to Motril.

Status of WTM Investigation: Concluded

Place of Incident: Western Mediterranean

Summary of the case: On Sunday the 2nd of April 2023, the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted by a relative to a group of nine travellers, all men, stuck at the Isla de Alboran. The travellers had left from Nador in the evening of the 30th of March, and reached the island on the 31st at around 05.00 CEST according to the relative. We were not able to establish direct contact to the people, but immediately alerted the Spanish search and rescue organisation Salvamento Maritimo to the situation, relaying all the information we had. We were not able to get any information from Spanish authorities about efforts to evacuate the travellers from the island. Only the following evening did we learn from relatives that the travellers had been brought to Motril.
