Case name: 2022_10_30-WM070

Situation: 51 travellers in distress in the Alboran Sea, rescued by Salvamento Maritimo and brought to Motril.

Status of WTM Investigation: Concluded

Place of Incident: Western Mediterranean Sea

Summary of the case: On Sunday the 30th of October 2022, the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted to a group of 51 travellers, including four women and five children, in distress in the Alboran Sea. The travellers had left from Al Hoceima the same morning at around 05.00 CET, heading towards Motril on a green fishing vessel. We were not able to establish direct contact to the boat, but alerted the Spanish search and rescue organisation Salvamento Maritimo, forwarding all the information we had. In the evening, Salvamento Maritimo informed us that they had rescued a boat that matched the description we had given, and later the relative confirmed that the travellers had been rescued and were being brought to Motril.
