Case name: 2022_07_24-WM035

Situation: Four boats in distress in the Alboran Sea, two rescued to Spain and two intercepted to Morocco.

Status of WTM Investigation: Concluded

Place of Incident: Western Mediterranean Sea

Summary of the case: On Sunday the 24th of July 2022, the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted by a relative to a convoy of four boats in distress in the Alboran Sea carrying four, six, five and six travellers, including four children in total. The travellers had left from Al Hociema the previous day at 11.00 CEST. We were not able to reach the travellers directly, but relayed all the information we had to the Spanish search and rescue organisation Salvamento Maritimo. During the night we continuously attempted to reach the travellers without success. The following morning we learned from the relative that the two boats with six people had been rescued by Salvamento Maritimo and brought to Motril, and that the boats with four and five people had been intercepted by the Moroccan navy.
