Watch The Med Alarm Phone Investigations – 7th August 2022

Case name: 2022_08_07-WM039

Situation: Four travellers in distress in the Alboran Sea, fate remains unknown.

Status of WTM Investigation: Concluded

Place of Incident: Western Mediterranean

Summary of the case: On Sunday the 7th of August 2022 shortly before midnight, the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted by a relative to a group of four young men in distress in the Alboran Sea. The travellers had left from Nador the same morning, heading towards Almeria on jetski. We were not able to establish direct contact to the travellers or to figure out their exact position. However, we alerted the Spanish search and rescue organisation Salvamento Maritimo as well as the Moroccan rescue authorities, relaying all the information we had. We were never able to reach the travellers, nor to confirm with Spanish or Moroccan authorities that the travellers had arrived. Their fate therefore remains unknown. We very much hope that they were able to make it to shore by themselves.
