Summary of the case: On Saturday the 15th of October 2022, the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted by a relative to a group of 13 travellers, including one woman and one small child, in distress in the Western Mediterranean Sea. The travellers had left from Bejaia, Algeria the previous morning at around 08.00 CEST on a blue and white rubber boat. They were heading towards the Balearic Islands. We were not able to reach the travellers, but immediately alerted the Spanish search and rescue organisation Salvamento Maritimo to the distress situation. In the evening we learned from the relative that the travellers had returned to Algeria and that they were all safe.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets.
