Summary of the case: On Saturday the 30th of July 2022, the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted by a relative to a group of 40 travellers, all men, in distress in the Atlantic Ocean. The travellers had left from Senegal one week previous on a wooden fishing boat. The travellers had no satellite phone onboard, and their cell phones were not reachable. We alerted the Spanish search and rescue organisation Salvamento Maritimo, forwarding all the information we had. In addition, we contacted activists on the ground to try and find out what had happened to the travellers. Over the following days we attempted to find out what happened to the travellers, but their families did not have news, and there was no rescue matching reported in media or social media. After doing research for a week to no avail, we had to close the case without knowing the outcome. We hope that the travellers made it back to safety on their own!
