Summary of the case: On Saturday the 7th of May 2022, the Alarm Phone shift team received a direct call from a group of around 57 travellers, 37 men, 19 women, and one child, in distress in the Atlantic Sea. The travellers had left in the early hours oft he morning from Boujdour, heading towards the Canary Islands. We managed to get the GPS position of the boat and relayed all the information we had to the Spanish search and rescue organisation Salvamento Maritimo. In the morning we learned that the Moroccan rescue authorities were coordinating the search and rescue operation and that the Moroccan navy was searching for the boat in distress. We lost contact to the travellers, but kept in contact with the Moroccan rescue authorities, attempting to get news about the fate of the boat. Only on the 9th of May in the morning did we learn that the travellers had been intercepted by the Moroccan navy.

Border police patrols
