Case name: 2022_07_21-EasternMed-937

Situation: 2 travellers were lost on Karpathos while the rest of the group got pushed back to Turkey

Status of WTM Investigation: Concluded

Place of Incident: Eastern Med

Summary of the Case:

In the late evening of 21 July the Alarm Phone was alerted by relatives of two women who were left behind by a group that had stranded on the Greek island of Karpathos.

In the night at 3:40 CEST after we had managed to locate the two travellers, we alerted the Greek authorities by email and also called the port authorities of Karpathos.

The next morning we learned from the relatives that while the rest of the group had been pushed back to Turkey, the two women were found and with the port police. According to the relatives, the two women did not manag to climb the mountains with the rest of the group and remained alone at the beach. Due to this reason they were not with the others when the whole group was found and pushed back to Turkey. The two women were brought from Karpathos to a camp on Leros.
