Summary of the case:

On the 7th of October at 22:00h CEST the Alarm Phone received a message from a boat in distress carrying 2 travelers who left Bouyafar the previous night. It was not possible to establish contact with the travelers throughout the shift. The Spanish Search and Rescue Agency Salvamento Maritimo (SM) confirmed the rescue of 14 boats that evening, however could not confirm the rescue of this exact boat. For days we haven’t been able to confirm a rescue, since SM refused to give us information about the cases. On the 9th of October family members informed us that the travelers have arrived safely in Motril, Spain.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets. In the open sea, it usually correspond to the outer extent of the contiguous zone, the area in which “State may exercise the control necessary to prevent infringement of its customs, fiscal, immigration or sanitary laws” (UNCLOS, art. 33).
