Summary of Case In the late morning we were called and alerted us to a boat in distress carrying two children, eight women and 47 men who had departed Laayoune in a green zodiac. We alerted authorities at 15.33 CEST. At 16.08 CEST the Spanish Search and Rescue organisation Salvamento Marítimo (SM) Las Palmas confirmed they had spotted the distress case and a SAR mission had been launched. At 18.24 CEST SM Las Palmas confirmed the rescue of the 57 people.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets.
