Watch The Med Alarm Phone Investigations – 6th of May 2021

Case name: 2021_05_06-WM601

Situation: 5 people started from Bouyafar in a wooden boat and reached Spain

Status of WTM Investigation: concluded

Place of Incident: Western Mediterranean

Summary of the Case:

In the afternoon of 6th of May 2021 the Alarm Phone got alerted to 5 people who departed on 5th of May at 16h local time in Bouyafar. They are travelling in a blue wooden boat and the telephone we received weren’t reachable at all. We called MRCC Rabat at 20:45h CEST: They don’t had any rescues this day. Salvamento Maritimo Almería stated at 21:44h CEST that hey didn’t rescue anyone this day. Same result when we called again on 7th of May at 06:49h CEST. The Regional Coordination Center of Guardia Civil Almería instead spoke of many arrivals. In the evening another call to MRCC Rabat didn’t bring light into the situation. On 8th of May we still lack information about rescue or interception and fear the people are still on sea. We spoke to SM Almeria at 16:28h CEST and the officer said there were no arrival for a boat on this type this day.

In the evening, luckily, we got informed by a community member that the travellers arrived close to Almeria on their own the day before. Boza!
