Summary of the Case:
On 21st of January 2021 at 08.00h CET the Alarm Phone received a distress call by a satellite phone. The person on the phone told us that they departed in the evening the day before in Zuwara. Onboard they were 50 people, among them 20 women and 8 children. The caller said the motor is running but air would leave the boat since some time. The Alarm Phone informed the so-called Libyan Coastguard and the NGO Ocean Viking at 08.38h CET. Updated GPS position were received by the travellers regularly and also forwarded to the competent actors. At 10.45h the people onboard told us they have seen an airplane. The Alarm Phone spoke to the travellers last time at 12.21h CET. Later we learned that an interception took place near the Bouri oil platforms.
