Status of WTM Investigation: Concluded
Place of Incident: Central Mediterranean
Summary On Monday the 2nd of November 2020 at 23.16, the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted by a relative to at boat with 13 people in distress in the Central Mediterranean sea. The travellers had left from Zarzis the previous day at around 19.00. The relative gave us a position of the boat; however, as the format of the position was wrong it took us some time to figure out the location of the boat. We tried to call the travellers, but were not able to reach them. At 00.27 we called the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Rome and gave them all the information we had. In addition, we sent them all the information in an email. At 02.11 the relative informed us that the travellers had arrived to Lampedusa and that everyone was safe.
