Summary of the case:

On the 9th of October at 16:03h CEST the Alarm Phone received a call about a boat in distress carrying 8 travelers who left from Mostaganem in the night from the 7th to the 8th of October. It was not possible to establish contact with the travelers. In the afternoon we received a message from friends of the travelers telling us that they have been pushed back to Algeria. We still haven’t received a confirmation from the travelers themselves, however due to a lack of information we decided to close the case.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets. In the open sea, it usually correspond to the outer extent of the contiguous zone, the area in which “State may exercise the control necessary to prevent infringement of its customs, fiscal, immigration or sanitary laws” (UNCLOS, art. 33).
