Summary of the case:

On the 8th of October at 01:15h CEST the Alarm Phone received a message about a boat in distress carrying 8 travelers who left from a beach between Al Hoceima and Nador in the morning of the previous day. It was not possible to establish contact with the people on the boat. In the morning the Spanish Search and Rescue Agency Salvamento Maritimo (SM) was informed however they claimed that they did not have any information about this boat. After two days we received a confirmation from relatives of the travelers that they have safely arrived in Motril, Spain.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets. In the open sea, it usually correspond to the outer extent of the contiguous zone, the area in which “State may exercise the control necessary to prevent infringement of its customs, fiscal, immigration or sanitary laws” (UNCLOS, art. 33).
