Summary of the case:

On the 7th of October at 23:20h CEST the Alarm Phone received a message about a boat in distress carrying 14 travelers, among them two women and two minors who left Al Hoceima in the morning the previous day. We informed SM about the boat, but they could not confirm the rescue because many boats were rescued that day. At midday on the following day we received a confirmation from a family member that the boat had been rescued to Spain.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets. In the open sea, it usually correspond to the outer extent of the contiguous zone, the area in which “State may exercise the control necessary to prevent infringement of its customs, fiscal, immigration or sanitary laws” (UNCLOS, art. 33).
