Watch The Med Alarm Phone Investigations – 5th of October 2019

Case name: 2019_10_05-WM420
Situation: 62 travellers reached Spain
Status of WTM Investigation: Concluded
Place of Incident: Western Mediterranean

Summary of the Case:
On 5th of October, the Alarm Phone shift team was informed at 15:45h CEST about a black boat with 62 people, all men, which started in the early morning from Bouyafar Last contact has been at 09:00h CEST. One hour later all attempts to reach the travellers directly failed but the shift team learned that Salvamento Marítimo (SM) was already searching for the boat. At 17:15h CEST the Alarm Phone spoke to SM and got the information that one boat was spotted. At 18:40h CEST a rescue was confirmed by SM. Because the details of the boat and the passengers corresponded with the information the Alarm Phone had received from the contact person, it is assumed that the rescued boat is the boat the Alarm Phone was alerted to. All passengers were brought to Motril.
