Case name: 2022_10_6_1030

Situation: 2 people arrived on Lesvos, three people missing

Status of WTM Investigation: Concluded

Place of Incident: Eastern Med / Aegean Sea

Summary of the Case: In the morning of the 6th of October we were alerted to a group of people who were in the forest on the island of Lesvos. We made contact with the people who told us there were initially 27 people but are now 16, as some people had been found and taken to the camp on the island. They told us there are pregnant women and babies in the group and that they need urgent medical assistance. We alerted the Greek authorities and NGOs on the island by email and told them the group wished to apply for asylum in Greece. Late in the afternoon, one person from the group told us they are in the camp but that some of the group remain in the forest, including one woman with a broken leg. The next morning, we spoke with the people remaining in the forest who told us they are now only two people, as three people left during the night and they do not know what happened to them. At 09:33 CEST we send another email to the Greek authorities and NGOs to ask for urgent assistance for the two remaining people, one of whom has a broken leg. Medicine Sans Frontier replied to tell us they will visit the location to provide medical aid, and later in the morning the two people told us they are in the camp.
