Summary of the Case: On the 6th of October we were alerted to 11 people who had arrived on Lesvos, in the group there were pregnant women and babies. We spoke with someone in the group who told us they are in desperate need of help and that the pregnant women and babies are suffering a lot and need medical assistance, they fear being pushed back to Turkey. We alerted the Greek authorities and NGOs on the island by email, and told them the group wished to apply for asylum in Greece. We later received confirmation from Medicine Sans Frontiers that they found 18 people at the location we sent them, that they provided Psychological First Aid to some in the group when they met them, and that the group was taken to Mavravouni Camp by the Police.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets. In the open sea, it usually correspond to the outer extent of the contiguous zone, the area in which “State may exercise the control necessary to prevent infringement of its customs, fiscal, immigration or sanitary laws” (UNCLOS, art. 33).
