Summary of the Case: On Saturday the 30th of June 2018, at 6.21am, our Alarm Phone shift team was informed by a contact person about a boat in distress in the Aegean Sea, carrying 45 people, including many children. They had run out of petrol. We informed the Greek coastguards at 6.33am and they took on the case and started to search for them. Already at 7.09am we received the information that they had been found and rescued by the Greek coastguards.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets. In the open sea, it usually correspond to the outer extent of the contiguous zone, the area in which “State may exercise the control necessary to prevent infringement of its customs, fiscal, immigration or sanitary laws” (UNCLOS, art. 33).
