No Italian Rescue Operation for Refugee Boat in Distress? <i>Update: Rescue Mission under way!</i>

Update: The MRCC Rome has confirmed that it is conducting a rescue operation!

There are 107 people on a small boat, men, women, children and at least one pregnant women. They come from different countries (Somalia, Syria and others). They embarked from Lybia and are heading towards Italy. They are without food and without water.

Their situation on the sea is getting more and more serious and water is comming into their boat. They ran out of fuel. We tried to reach them again but this was not possible any more.

The latest coordinates we have are: longitude, latitude at : 33.315383, 13.393933 (8.1. 1 13:39). The latest news (15:46) we got, were that there is a helicoper near by them – then we could not reach them any more. The Italian coast guard does not provide any information.

We have been in contact with the MRCC Rome repeatedly to demand an immediate rescue operation!

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets.
