Summary of the case: On Monday the 26th of August 2024 just before midnight, the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted by a relative to a group of 22 travellers in distress in the Central Mediterranean Sea. We got their GPS position from the relative and immediately alerted the relevant search and rescue authorities, relaying all the information we had. We passed on updated positions from the relative to the authorities as often as possible. The relative also informed us that the situation onboard was getting worse as waves were high and the people had run out of drinking water and were exhausted. Later, we learned that the travellers had been intercepted by the so-called Libyan coastguard.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets.
