Summary of the case: On Thursday the 8th of August 2024, the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted to a group of around 60 travellers in distress in the Central Mediterranean Sea. They were travelling on a rubber boat that was losing air. The travellers told us that their boat was about to sink and that some people were already in the water. We could hear on the phone that they were panicking. We managed to get their GPS position and immediately alerted the relevant search and rescue authorities, relaying all the information we had. Later, we learned from a relative that the travellers had been found by the so-called Libyan coastguard and brought back to Libya.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets.
