Summary of the case: On Tuesday the 28th of May 2024, the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted to a group of 25 travellers in distress in the Central Mediterranean Sea. They told us that their engine had stopped and that they were drifting. We managed to get their GPS position and immediately alerted the relevant search and rescue authorities, relaying all the information we had. In addition, we reached out to nearby merchant vessels, alerting them to the situation. We stayed in contact with the travellers and passed on their updated positions to authorities as often as possible. Later, we learned that the travellers had been rescued by the search and rescue NGO vessel Ocean Viking.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets.
