Summary of the case: On Tuesday the 28th of May 2024, the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted by a relative to a group of 47 travellers, including three women and a child, in distress in the Central Mediterranean Sea. The travellers had left from Sfax the evening before. We were not able to reach the travellers directly and did not know their position. However, we immediately alerted the relevant search and rescue authorities, relaying all the information we had. For days we tried to reach the boat or get more information from authorities, without success. We learned that a boat matching the description we had been given had arrived to Lampedusa, and therefore believe the travellers arrived safely. However, we were not able to verify the information about their arrival.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets.
