Summary of the case: On Monday the 13th of May 2024, the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted to a group of around 50 travellers, including 13 minors, in distress in the Central Mediterranean Sea. The travellers had left from Zuwarah. They told us that water was entering their boat and we could hear on the phone that they were panicking. They told us that they had no food and drinking water left. We managed to get their GPS position and immediately alerted the relevant search and rescue authorities, relaying all the information we had. We stayed in contact with the people and passed on their updated positions to the authorities whenever possible. Later, we learned that the travellers had been rescued and brought to Lampedusa.
