Summary of the case: On Saturday the 23rd of March 2024, the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted by a relative to a group of 62 travellers, including five children and three women, one of them pregnant, in distress in the Central Mediterranean Sea. The travellers had left from Tripoli the previous day on a wooden boat. We were not able to reach the travellers or get their exact GPS position, but according to the relative they were 60km away from Lampedusa. We immediately alerted the relevant search and rescue authorities, relaying all the information we had. Later, we learned from the relative that they had been intercepted by the so-called Libyan coastguard and were now in prison.
