Summary of the Case:

In the early morning of the 15th of January, Alarm Phone received a call from a concerned relative, alerting us to a group of 32 people, including 22 children, in distress on Kos close to the eastern shores of the island. We established direct contact to the group and they reported that the children were suffering due to the cold weather conditions. We alerted the authorities at 09:24 CET. That afternoon, the Greek police confirmed that the people had been taken to a camp in Kos.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets. In the open sea, it usually correspond to the outer extent of the contiguous zone, the area in which “State may exercise the control necessary to prevent infringement of its customs, fiscal, immigration or sanitary laws” (UNCLOS, art. 33).
