Summary of the case: On Monday the 12th of August 2024, the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted by a relative to a group of 59 travellers, including three women, in distress in the Atlantic Ocean. The travellers had left from Laayoune on the same day in the early hours of the morning on a rubber boat, heading towards Fuerteventura. The travellers had no satellite phone with them, and we were therefore not able to reach them. Weather conditions were bad with strong winds. We immediately alerted the Spanish search and rescue organisation Salvamento Maritimo, relaying all the information we had. In later calls to Salvamento they informed us that they were searching for the boat. Later, we learned that Salvamento Maritimo had rescued the travellers.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets.
