Summary of the Case: In the evening of the 16th of April, a relative alerted the Alarm Phone shift team to a distress case in the Atlantic. According to the relative, the rubber boat carried 71 travellers, including 12 women, and had departed in the morning hours of the same day from Dakhla, heading toward the Canaries. The shift team managed to get in touch with the travellers who reported that the situation was difficult, water started entering the boat and people were vomiting and sick. The shift team alerted the Spanish search and rescue organisation Salvamento Maritimo, relaying all these information and the current position, that they kept updating in the following hours. Salvamento Maritimo launched a search and rescue operation and a merchant vessel was instructed to search for the travellers in distress. In the end, the travellers were rescued by Salvamento Maritimo.

Border police patrols
