Watch The Med Alarm Phone Investigations – 12th of October 2023
Case name: 2023_10_12-WM066
Situation: 27 travellers intercepted in the Western Mediterranean Sea.
Status of WTM Investigation: Concluded
Place of Incident: Western Mediterranean Sea

Summary of the Case: On the 12th of October, a relative alerted the Alarm Phone shift team to a group of travellers in distress in the Western Mediterranean Sea. The group of around 27 people had left Alhoceima, Morocco, on the 12th of October in a fiber boat. We could not reach the travellers but informed the Spanish search and rescue organisation Salvamento Maritimo about the boat. Throughout the next day, we continued to call the travellers but could not reach them and tried to find out, if the Spanish or Moroccan rescue authorities had rescued the boat in question. On the 15th of October, one of the travellers contacted the Alarm Phone and confirmed, that the group had been intercepted by the Marine Royale and that the travellers were brought back to Morocco.
