Summary of the Case:
In the morning of the 5th of January 2024, Alarm Phone was alerted to a group of 17 people, including 5 women and 7 children, who had gone into hiding upon arrival on Chios because they were afraid of being pushed back. Our team on duty that morning alerted Greek authorities and other organisations. About 24 hours after the alert, we got informed that the group was found and they were brought to the camp.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets. In the open sea, it usually correspond to the outer extent of the contiguous zone, the area in which “State may exercise the control necessary to prevent infringement of its customs, fiscal, immigration or sanitary laws” (UNCLOS, art. 33).
