Summary of the Case:
On 27 December 2022, we were alerted by relatives of a group of 34 people, among them 15 children, who had stranded in the north of Lesvos. They reported that there was a pregnant woman and children in bad health conditions among them, that several people needed medical attention due to health problems and that they are in the cold with wet clothes.

At 11:00 CET, we alerted Greek authorities and several NGOs by email.

At 16:32 CET Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) confirmed by email that they had found the 34 people and had provided medical and psychological assistance to them.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets. In the open sea, it usually correspond to the outer extent of the contiguous zone, the area in which “State may exercise the control necessary to prevent infringement of its customs, fiscal, immigration or sanitary laws” (UNCLOS, art. 33).
