Summary of the Case: On November 2nd, the Alarm Phone received a call from a concerned relative about a boat with 33 travellers, including seven women, that had left Boujdour around midnight CET on November 1st. Unable to establish contact with the travellers, the Alarm Phone alerted the Spanish search and rescue organisation Salvamento Marítimo (SM) with the last known position of the boat. The following day Alarm Phone learned that the boat had been intercepted by the Moroccan Coast Guard near Boujdour in the late evening of November 3rd.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets. In the open sea, it usually correspond to the outer extent of the contiguous zone, the area in which “State may exercise the control necessary to prevent infringement of its customs, fiscal, immigration or sanitary laws” (UNCLOS, art. 33).
