Summary of the Case: On November 6th, 2022, the Alarm Phone was contacted by a concerned relative about a boat with 13 men that had departed earlier that day at 03:00 CET near Temsamane in Morocco. Unable to establish contact with the boat, the Alarm Phone alerted the Spanish search and rescue organization Salvamento Marítimo (SM) with information about the situation. The following day the Alarm Phone received confirmation that SM rescued the travellers to Almeíra.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets. In the open sea, it usually correspond to the outer extent of the contiguous zone, the area in which “State may exercise the control necessary to prevent infringement of its customs, fiscal, immigration or sanitary laws” (UNCLOS, art. 33).
