Summary of the Case:

In the early morning hours of 9 December 2022, our shift team was alerted when the dead body of a man was found in the Bulgarian municipality of Sredets between Golyamo Krushevo and Slivovo. The dead was described as about 30 years old man, recently-deceased, most probably after crossing the border from Turkey to Bulgaria.

A 9:36 CET, we informed Bulgarian authorities, asking them to recover the body and ensure a dignified burial.

We will never forget him.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets. In the open sea, it usually correspond to the outer extent of the contiguous zone, the area in which “State may exercise the control necessary to prevent infringement of its customs, fiscal, immigration or sanitary laws” (UNCLOS, art. 33).
