Summary of the case: On Friday the 28th of October 2022, the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted by a relative to a group of nine travellers, all men, in distress in the Western Mediterranean Sea. The travellers had left from Oran at around 06.00 CEST on the 26th of October, heading towards Almeria. We were not able to establish direct contact to the boat, but immediately alerted the Spanish search and rescue organisation Salvamento Maritimo, relaying all information we had. Despite continuously trying over the following days, we never managed to reach the travellers. For several days we attempted to get information from the authorities, as relatives were getting increasingly worried. Only on the 1st of November did we learn from a relative that the travellers had been rescued to Almeria and that all of them were safe.

Border police patrols
