Summary of the Case: In the morning of the 10th of November, we were alerted by relatives to a family of six who had arrived on Lesvos. There were four children in the family, one of whom was only four months old and was in a serious condition, needing urgent medical attention. We immediately alerted the Greek authorities and NGOs on the island, informing them as well that the family wanted to apply for asylum in Greece. Later that morning, Doctors without borders informed us via email that they had found the group, who were taken to Mavravouni Camp by the police.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets. In the open sea, it usually correspond to the outer extent of the contiguous zone, the area in which “State may exercise the control necessary to prevent infringement of its customs, fiscal, immigration or sanitary laws” (UNCLOS, art. 33).
