Summary of the Case: Early in the morning on the 6th of October we received an alert by relatives for 13 people who have arrived on Lesvos. We contacted the group who told us they are in urgent need of assistance. They were 2 men, 7 women and 4 children, they told us that the children were very sick, and they had run out of milk for the infants. We immediately alerted the Greek authorities and NGOs on the island by email, informing them that the group wished to apply for asylum in Greece. Medicine Sans Frontiers replied by email to inform they will go to look for the group and provide medical assistance. In the evening we managed to contact someone from the group who informed us they were safe and in quarantine at the camp on the island.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets. In the open sea, it usually correspond to the outer extent of the contiguous zone, the area in which “State may exercise the control necessary to prevent infringement of its customs, fiscal, immigration or sanitary laws” (UNCLOS, art. 33).
