Summary of the Case:
Late in the morning on September 23rd 2022, we are alerted to a group of 16 people who had arrived on Lesvos Island and were in need of assistance. We immediately alert the Greek authorities and NGOs on the island. We also published the case on social media. We found out later in the afternoon that the group had been found by Medicine Sans Frontiers and brought to the camp on the island.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets. In the open sea, it usually correspond to the outer extent of the contiguous zone, the area in which “State may exercise the control necessary to prevent infringement of its customs, fiscal, immigration or sanitary laws” (UNCLOS, art. 33).
