Situation: 57 travellers in distress in the Atlantic Ocean, rescued by Salvamento Maritimo and brought to the Canary Islands.

Summary of the case: On Friday the 12th of August 2022, the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted by a relative to a group of 57 travellers, including 13 women and one child, in distress in the Atlantic Ocean. The travellers had left from Tan Tan the previous morning at midnight, and had thus been at sea for more than 24 hours. We were not able to reach the travellers, but we could see that the wind in the area was getting stronger. We alerted the Spanish search and rescue organisation Salvamento Maritimo, relaying all the information we had. Salvamento Maritimo confirmed to us on the phone that they would take care of the distress case.
In the afternoon we learned from the relative that the travellers had been rescued by Salvamento Maritimo and taken to the Canary Islands.

Border police patrols
