Watch The Med Alarm Phone Investigations – 11th May 2022Case name: 2022_05_11-ATL049
Situation: 55 travellers in distress in the Atlantic Sea, probably arrived to Lanzarote.
Status of WTM Investigation: Concluded
Place of Incident: Atlantic Sea
Summary of the case: On Wednesday the 11th of May 2022, the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted by a relative to a group of 55 travellers, including eight women and three children, in distress in the Atlantic Sea. The travellers had left from Tan Tan at around 00.30 CEST on the 10th of May on a blue rubber boat. We were not able to reach the travellers directly and did therefore not know their GPS position. However, we relayed all the information we had to the Spanish search and rescue organisation Salvamento Maritimo. In the afternoon the relative told us that the travellers had run out of petrol and were therefore drifting. We remained unable to establish a direct contact to the boat. However, later in the evening the relative informed us that the travellers had arrived to Lanzarote.
