Summary of the Case:

In the early morning hours of 27th of June, Alarm Phone was alerted by a group stranded on Samos. At 05:42h CEST we sent an email to authorities and NGOs present on the island in order to inform them about the distress. Medicins Sans Frontières then answered by email that they would respond to the alert, as there were people in need of medical assistance.

At 06:56h CEST the travellers sent a message saying that one woman just gave birth, and sent pictures of a new born. They also said that the woman who gave birth is unconscious and called for urgent medical help. Luckily our shift team had a becoming midwife in the house who managed to give advice to the woman.

Around noon the travellers confirmed that the ambulance took three people and later in the afternoon we received the confirmation that all travellers are safely in the reception camp in Samos.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets. In the open sea, it usually correspond to the outer extent of the contiguous zone, the area in which “State may exercise the control necessary to prevent infringement of its customs, fiscal, immigration or sanitary laws” (UNCLOS, art. 33).
