Summary of the Case:
In the late evening of the 20th of May Alarmphone was informed about 23 people in distress in Turkish waters between Dalaman and Rhodes, people were drfting without an engine and water wa entering the boat. We informed the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Ankara at 23:30 CEST. Shortly after midnight the people on the boat told us the Turkish rescue vessel is right next to them, at four in the morning they informed us about their arrival in Turkey.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets. In the open sea, it usually correspond to the outer extent of the contiguous zone, the area in which “State may exercise the control necessary to prevent infringement of its customs, fiscal, immigration or sanitary laws” (UNCLOS, art. 33).
