Summary of the Case:

Just before midnight of the 14th of May, Alarm Phone received a call by a worried relative, alerting us to a group of 32 people including women and children in distress in Turkish waters. At the time of the alert, the caller related that water was coming into the boat and that they needed help. We managed to establish direct contact to the boat who confirmed this information and then shortly after they told us that the Turkish Coastguard had now reached them. We called the authorities at who confirmed the rescue of this case.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets. In the open sea, it usually correspond to the outer extent of the contiguous zone, the area in which “State may exercise the control necessary to prevent infringement of its customs, fiscal, immigration or sanitary laws” (UNCLOS, art. 33).
