Summary of the Case:

On Thursday, 19th of April, at 10:42am, we were alerted to a boat in distress on its way to Chios island. Ten minutes later, at 10:52am, the contact person informed us that the people had been rescued, but it was unclear whether they had been brought to Turkey or to Greece. We couldn’t establish a phone connection to the travellers. Only the next day we received the information by the travellers themselves that they had been intercepted and brought to Turkey.

Border police patrols
While the exact location of patrols is of course constantly changing, this line indicates the approximate boundary routinely patrolled by border guards’ naval assets. In the open sea, it usually correspond to the outer extent of the contiguous zone, the area in which “State may exercise the control necessary to prevent infringement of its customs, fiscal, immigration or sanitary laws” (UNCLOS, art. 33).
