Watch The Med Alarm Phone Investigations – 12th February 2022Case name: 2022_02_12-WM016
Situation: Seven travellers in distress in the Alboran Sea, rescued by Salvamento Maritimo and brought to Motril.
Status of WTM Investigation: Concluded
Place of Incident: Western Mediterranean
Summary: On Saturday the 12th of February 2022, the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted by a relative to a group of seven travellers in distress in the Western Mediterranean Sea. The travellers had left on a green fiber glass boat from Bouyafar the same morning, heading towards Motril. Neither we nor the relative were able to reach the travellers, but we relayed all the information we had to the Spanish search and rescue organisation Salvamento Maritimo. The following morning Salvamento Maritimo told us that there had been several rescue operations in the Alboran Sea during the night, but they could not give us a final confirmation that this boat had arrived safely. For several days we attempted, unsuccessfully, to reach the travellers, and stayed in contact with relatives. Two days later, we finally received a confirmation from the relative that the travellers had been rescued and brought to Motril where they had just been released from detention and called their families.
