Place of Incident: Central Mediterranean

Summary of the case: On Friday the 25th of February 2022, the Alarm Phone shift team was alerted by a relative to a group of 105 travellers, including 20 women and 15 children, in distress in the Central Mediterranean Sea. The travellers had left from Sabratha the same evening on a white rubber boat. We managed to reach the travellers and got their GPS position. They told us that they situation onboard was critical. We immediately relayed all the information we had to the relevant rescue authorities. We stayed in contact with the travellers and could hear that the situation onboard was deteriorating as the weather was bad and many people were panicking. At 04.04 CET we lost contact to the travellers. Later, we learned that they had been intercepted by the so-called Libyan coastguard.
